Sciatica and lower back, leg pain

Sciatica is a very painful illness that can strike almost anyone anytime but more often is a result of a fall, heavy lifting or the deterioration over time of the discs and a combination of the formentioned.

It is a result of the sciatic nerve which runs from Lumbar 4 and 5 vertebrae getting compressed or pinched as it is leaving the spine to go to the lower leg.

Pain

It can cause shooting, dull, or hot pain which can also make parts of the body numb, as in the feet.

 How to recover

Heat on the lumbar region is a remedy that eases the pain if done regularly.

Massage on the muscles in the lower back and buttock region helps to release the tension which may then release the pressure on the disc which is causing the pinch in the nerve.

Stretches and yoga asana are a powerful way to recover as they relax the muscles and restore normality in the muscular and skeletal system.

Essentially the space in the disc and the balance of the disc in the spine must be restored to its normal place. Each disc must be balanced evenly on the one below. It it is lopsided it often causes problems and pain.

Letting Go - Healing the Self and Emotional barriers

Emotional barriers to being who you are

Emotions are a real thing, a human phenomena, but some would say not exclusive to us only.

Emotions act as a filter for reality. They sometimes heighten and also add to an experience which our senses process via the 5 senses.

For example if we hear music that we like we either just hear it and are not affected, hear it and become sad if it is a reflective piece of art or are exuberant, happy if the music is uplifting.

Communication human interaction

In the same way people and their interaction with us can make us happy sad, angry, jealous, fearful, loved, secure, etc but in the negative sense if it is not positive it will be shrouded by some sort of fear, uncertainty  or dread.

The mind memory and survival

The mind is a very complex machine which is a hub for the processing of experience, information that comes to it via the eyes, skin, neural pathways, smell and olfactory system, hearing, taste and so on...

Most of the information that is out there and our senses are picking up is probably lost or overlooked in favor of the "more immediate" data that is chosen by the mind to bring to our conscious mind. We notice stuff with our eyes but we don't really take everything in all the time because there is just too much info happening all the time to be of any use to us. And that's the point, it has to be useful, useful for our survival.

Remember, survival is the aim for all of us and our bodies have developed over thousands of years for this, to the present.

The Mind memory and emotion

So we have an experience then we have a memory of it, but not always. If it is important to our survival then we would be smart to remember that experience. Many times we do, sometimes we don't if it's maybe too painful to relive it mentally. This is an energy saving filtering mechanism.

Pleasant memories give us good feelings and happiness and that is the ultimate aim of being human, to pursue happiness, so if we are lucky to have the memory of playing in the grass on a summers day as a toddler and smelling the daisies and the sound of the creek in the hills, then this will add to our emotional well being. It will be a positive memory and have a happy emotional feeling attached to it.

If on the other hand we were frightened as a child when we were out camping in the woods when we heard a strange sound when getting out of our tent in the night, then that fearful experience of the sound of some unknown animal may trigger a memory about darkness, unknown animal sounds, the unknown itself, feeling alone, insecurity, threatened etc.....

So the mind keeps a memory fragment  and its associated emotional memory in our mind and also sometimes in our bodies. (the latter is another discussion in the future about physical holding of energy, emotions and experiences)

This is because we need to remember those things that the mind filters as being pertinent to our survival. When we are very young the barriers are not setup to impede our exploration of things and that's why kids are so inquisitive on the whole but as we grow so do our memories and filters. We start to discern, factor out some and include other choices about, people, smells, places, colors, noises, language and so on....

Family influences

These thoughts and feeling are often influenced by our immediate family to a degree as our parents hangups, fears and inhibitions are passed on to us like osmosis. We don't even have to be consciously taught to fear water if our parents have had that fear, or of heights etc.....You could say some things are even passed on genetically but it is often hard to prove this exactly.

The way to clear away emotions : Let Go

If we get to a point in ourselves that we see that we are not living the happiest, most fulfilled existence that we could live then we may start to feel unsatisfied, unhappy with our lot, stuck, bored with ourselves or outright, annoyed that we know there is a better life 'out there' but we are constantly avoiding that better way, the joy that is before us due to an underlying fearful approach to life.....then we may choose to 'let go'.

The Healer

The healer is a medium only a facilitator. The healing tradition goes back into the mists of time to our ancestral tribal cultures. The healer is the middle point between the known and the unknown, the conscious and the unconscious. In tribal cultures there was always a healer, a witch to dispense herbs and potion, a medicine man to sing you to health and beat the drum.

Our Choice

To be healed one must make the active choice when it comes to emotional barriers. Nobody can choose for us. This is both good thing and a bad thing. We potentially can be our own best resource for health or our own worst enemy. So having made the choice to go ahead and find a clearer life, a better way one begins the healing journey, often with the aid of a healer.

A true healer can be anyone with the power to heal, some education and training in a modality can help but it is not a real necessity or a prerequisite. To be a healer one must have the power to listen, to feel the emotional air in the room, to be impartial, non judgemental, to gently assist in the progress of the spirit of the person before them. For the healer it is a benefit if he or she has a spiritual framework to work within be it Islam, Wicca, Druidism, Taoism, Christianity, Buddhism, Judaism the Yiddish faith etc...

Unfortunately nowadays anyone can call themselves a healer and start charging money for their work but true healing is something that one often but not always is not chosen but just comes to the person and they almost have no choice but to be involved in.

This happens when someone undergoes some transformation, a spiritual journey, often over many years and their heart self embraces humanity to such an extent that healing becomes their nature.  In fact everywhere they go they can often become the lightning rod for someones emotional awakening.  In the same vane they also can meet fierce resistance and be subject to the brunt of those who are the most fearful as these people resist their own fears and project them onto the healer. These things come with the career and are par for the course as we say. That is why the healer must me unwavering, self convicted and staunch in their beliefs but open at the same time open.

Have a look at Carolyne Myss and her framework for the chakras and healing oneself.

It outlines the action of each chakra and provides one way of eliminating past toxic memories and emotions so that memory and thoughts no longer provide the fuel for emotional barriers to remain alive. The only way to sincerely have a go at living is by living in the present. There is no more to say.

Living in the present as Jesus of Nazareth said is to live through the eyes of a little child, what better way to describe pure awareness.

Being Human

Part of being human is to be emotional and to be fully human we develop the full range of feeling, love/hatred, joy/sadness, fear/confidence, unity/isolation, fear/control authority surprise, disgust, trust, anticipation. Emotions are so complex that it is difficult to even categorize them definitively.  Some emotions become a blend like anticipation/fear.

Put simply humans are made up of a body, mind and soul/spirit. Thoughts are of the mind and emotions are of the spirit/body. In fact they are the expression of the spirit via the body. The spirit has no form so must become recognizable of manifest via the body.

Why do we have emotions? We express emotions as a reflex reaction of the nature of our spirit. Like the spirit, emotions are not visible but we can feel them via our senses and they effect our heart rate, endocrine glands, nervous system, thinking etc...

Ego

It takes some introspection, time and effort to understand ones emotions and it is possible to ignore them to some degree. However doing that will exact a toll. Emotions express themselves via the body's ego. The ego interacts and give prominence to emotional situational events like pride, honor, horror, disgust, repulsion, attraction, loneliness.  How does this work? Well first we must self identify, that is the mind construct the idea of a self, a body,a person with feelings, desires, thoughts, likes/dislikes, goals, an image of ones capacity, etc...

This ego which identifies with itself, which has pride, a sense of destiny and self propulsion, power is the work of the mind. We do this in order to socially interact and successfully operate in society. Other like minded or diverse persons do the same and we interact via a consented range of behavioral norms and values which facilitate communication and work. This is how we 'get on' or clash with our neighbors or detractors/enemies. the ego in itself is not evil but one out of control is a living hell because it conflates the truth and exaggerates reality to suite its own ends.

And what are those ends? The ego has a high stake in preserving itself and continues to create a facade of reality for the mind. Its does this by telling the mind for example; I must be aggressive with person X so he won't trample on me. I am much better than Japanese people because they are small physically and petty minded.
